01 First, work out which world you are in
Before thinking about where, be honest about what. Peptides split into two groups that could not be more different to buy:
- Approved medicines — semaglutide, tirzepatide, liraglutide, insulin, bremelanotide (PT-141) and a few others. These are prescription-only medicines (POMs) in the UK. The safe, legal route is a prescriber (your GP or a regulated online service with a GMC-registered doctor) and a GPhC-registered pharmacy that dispenses the licensed product.
- Research chemicals — BPC-157, TB-500, the GH secretagogues, most of the rest. None are licensed medicines. They are sold "for research use only / not for human consumption", a label that exists to sidestep medicines law, not a sign of quality. There is no regulated route to buy these for human use, and in the UK supplying an unlicensed medicine for human use is an offence (read the legal detail).
If the peptide you want is approved, stop reading the research-chemical advice below and use the prescription route. The rest of this guide is about reducing risk if you are sourcing research-grade material regardless.
02 Buying an approved peptide medicine (the safe path)
For anything that has a UK marketing authorisation, the rules are simple and worth following:
- Start with the NHS. For weight-management GLP-1s in particular, check whether you meet NHS criteria before paying privately.
- A private prescription is fine, but the chain must be regulated. A GMC-registered prescriber should assess you, and a GPhC-registered pharmacy should dispense a licensed, branded product (e.g. Wegovy, Mounjaro, Ozempic).
- Verify the pharmacy. Every legitimate UK pharmacy is on the GPhC register; you can look it up. A site that ships a prescription-only medicine without any prescription or consultation is breaking the law and is not safe.
- Be wary of "compounded" or "generic" semaglutide/tirzepatide sold cheap. If it is not the licensed branded product from a registered pharmacy, you do not know what is in it.
03 Research chemicals: the Certificate of Analysis is everything
If you are sourcing a research-grade peptide, the single most useful thing you can do is insist on a recent independent third-party Certificate of Analysis (COA) for the exact batch you are buying. A COA is a lab document showing what is actually in the vial.
What a credible COA shows:
- An independent lab. The community-recognised analytical labs are Janoshik Analytical, MZ Biolabs and Colmaric Analyticals. A result you can independently look up beats any vendor claim.
- The specific batch number, matching the vial you receive, not a generic or year-old document.
- HPLC purity. As a rule of thumb, ≥96% is the accepted minimum and ≥99% is excellent. Mass spectrometry (MS) confirms the molecule is what it claims to be.
- A unique report number and the test method, so it can be verified with the lab.
The biggest tell of all: never trust testing the seller commissioned and hosts themselves with no way to verify it — that is a conflict of interest. If a supplier cannot produce independent third-party testing, treat that as a serious red flag and walk away.
04 Red flags when sourcing research material
Walk away if you see any of these:
- No independent COA, or one you cannot look up with the lab.
- Health or dosing claims on a "research only" product — a vendor that tells you how to inject it for muscle growth is both lying about the "research" framing and breaking the rules.
- Prices far below everyone else — purity, sterility and correct peptide content cost money; suspiciously cheap usually means underdosed, impure, or not the peptide at all.
- No batch-level documentation, sterility or endotoxin data for anything intended to be reconstituted.
- Pressure tactics, crypto-only payment, or no UK presence/returns.
None of this makes an unlicensed peptide safe — it cannot, the evidence and regulation simply are not there (see how we grade evidence). It only reduces the odds of getting something actively dangerous or fake.
05 The honest bottom line
We are not here to talk anyone into using unapproved peptides; most sit at the bottom of our evidence scale for good reason. But people are going to search "where to buy" regardless, and the responsible thing is to make that search safer rather than pretend it isn't happening.
So: if it is an approved medicine, get it on prescription from a regulated pharmacy. If it is a research chemical, understand that you are taking on all the risk yourself, demand an independent COA, and talk to a clinician before putting anything unlicensed into your body.
